Obituary for V. Dwayne Goodwin

V. Dwayne Goodwin, 69, of Palmyra, died at Friday, February 1, 2019 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Palmyra . Father Basil Eruo will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Palmyra. The Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra.

Dwayne was born September 7, 1949, in Palmyra to Robert and Pauline Daly Goodwin.

He married Ellen Sullens on October 17, 1970 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She survives.

Other survivors include Sons;, Dwayne ( Becky) Goodwin and Darin ( Joelle) Goodwin, both of Palmyra; Grandsons;, Gabe Goodwin and Adam Goodwin, both of Palmyra; Brothers; Bob (Brenda) Goodwin, Bill Goodwin, and Mike ( Becky) Goodwin, all of Palmyra; Sisters;, Donna ( Don) Morris, Hannibal, and Karen ( Jim) Beadle, Palmyra.

Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents.

Dwayne was a 1967 graduate of Palmyra High School. He served in the U. S. Army in Korea from 1969 to 1971 and then served in the National Guard for 4 years. He worked at Harris Corp. in Quincy for 37 years and retired in 2009 as an Order Administrator. He was a member of Boots-Dickson Post #174 of the American Legion and served as Past Commander. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He loved attending all of his grandsons sporting events and spending time with family and friends around the pool. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, traveling, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He also volunteered at the Palmyra Nutrition Center. He was honored to go on the Great River Honor Flight with his sons in May, 2018.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Boots-Dickson Post # 174 .

Pallbearers will be Bobby Dodd, Nik Yager, Pete Fee, W. T. Johnson, Rick Hoenes, Robert Fohey, Darrell Comstock, and Shelby Pugh.

Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Burch, Phil Mudd, Kenny Meyers, Jeff Massman, Jack Hamilton, Tom Bell, Bill Genck, Rich Wolfmeyer, and Bill Baker.
