H. Gene Maddux, 87, of Palmyra, Missouri, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013 at the home of his dauther in Edwardsville, IL. Gene was born September 24, 1925 in Perry, Missouri to Roy Lee and Mary Rosenstengle Maddux. Gene was married to Gwendolyn Kaye Maddox March 13, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri. She survives. Other Survivors include: daughter, Linda (Garry) Maddux Wehmeyer of Edwardsville, IL; son, Rodney Lee (Sissy) Maddux of Louisville, KY; grandchildren: Alicia (Paul) Wehmeyer Waltenberger of Edwardsville, IL; Heather (Brad) Wehmeyer Gipson of Brentwood, TN; Jonathan (Richelle) Dinwiddie of New Orleans, LA; Molly Maddux of Louisville, KY; Blake (Jenna) Maddux of Louisville, KY; Maddy (Tim) Maddux Nelson of Ocala, FL, Macy Maddux of Louisville, KY, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, both a sister and brother. After graduation from high school, Gene served with the United States Merchant Marines from 1943 to 1947. He worked as a bottling company superintendent for soft drink bottling companies for many years until his retirement. Gene was a member of the Norfolk Smith VFW Post #11041, Boots Dickson American Legion Post #174, Jackson Park Golf Course, and a former board member for Meals on Wheels through the Palmyra Nutrition Center. He attended the Palmyra United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 2, 2013 at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. Rev. Tim Nelson will officiate. Burial with military honors will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra, Missouri. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Great River Honor Flight and/or BJC Hospice-Alton, Illinois.
